IGP says looking forward to retirement, focusing on farming hobby

SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador is looking forward to retirement and focusing on his hobby - farming.

The Inspector-General of Police, who is expected to retire in May, said after almost two years as the country's top cop, he was ready to retire.

"I can't wait to do more farming once I retire," he said in an interview with Tan Sri Johan Jaafar during a Sinar Harian Facebook Live session on Wednesday (March 17).

Abdul Hamid reminded all police personnel and officers to carry out their duties with integrity.

"Use the authority given to help people, instead of victimising them.

"Leave any bad habits and focus on strengthening integrity," he added.

Meanwhile, on an ongoing operation against illegally modified motorcycle exhausts, the IGP said such an operation was needed as such offences were a nuisance to the public.

"I made the decision to go after riders with modified exhausts as it was bothering people, especially in housing areas such as People's Housing Projects (PPR).

"Such riders make a lot of noise late at night or early in the morning and it is disturbing people.

"Our mission is to ensure peace and harmony for all but such noise impacts everyone.

"I received numerous complaints and I feel the operations must be conducted," he said.

To the naysayers who claimed that the police are victimising the riders, who are mostly from the lower-income group, Abdul Hamid said modifying the exhausts cost thousands of ringgit.

"Those who criticise the move might live in elite neighbourhoods where such noise is unheard of," he added.
