Changlun, Bukit Kayu Hitam hit by hailstorm, reports of damaged roofing, uprooted trees


ALOR SETAR: A hailstorm was reported to have affected a few villages and residential areas near here, damaging the roofs of dozens of village houses and uprooting trees during a heavy downpour in Changlun and its surrounding areas Wednesday (March 3) evening.

Villagers picked up the hail and uploaded pictures of it on social media.

So far, the affected villages include Kampung Sungai Buluh, Kampung Batu 13, Kampung Lembah Keriang, Taman Teja, and Kampung Masjid where more than 20 houses were said to be affected by the hailstorm and downpour.

Police personnel from the Kubang Pasu district headquarters and Changlun police station are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the hailstorm.

Meanwhile, all the uprooted trees have been cleared.

Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said,"As at 10.30pm Wednesday, eight police reports related to the incident were lodged at the Changlun police station and two reports lodged at the Bukit Kayu Hitam police station,"



"At about 4.50pm, a downpour occurred in the Changlun and Bukit Kayu Hitam area.

"The roofing of a few houses was blown away by the strong winds. However, no casualties was reported.

"Trees were also reported to have been uprooted along KM5 of the North-South Expressway heading to Bukit Kayu Hitam but no accidents or injuries have been reported," Supt Ismail said.

Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblyman Halimaton Shaadiah Saad, who is also state Women, Family, Community and Welfare Committee chairman, will be visiting the affected areas at 10.30am Thursday(March 4).
