Two cops under probe for alleged misconduct

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating two incidents in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, of alleged wrongdoings by police personnel, which has since gone viral.

The first incident involved a woman in Penang, who claimed that a policeman had asked for her phone number when she was stopped at a roadblock. He subsequently contacted her to get acquainted.

The other incident involved another woman who claimed police personnel had allegedly inapproritately criticised her for not wearing a bra when she was stopped at a roadblock at Jalan Duta.

Both women shared their experiences and allegations on social media.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk Zamri Yahya said Kuala Lumpur and Penang police are investigating both incidents while being monitored by JIPS.

“The investigation involved identifying the police personnel based on statements obtained.

“Bukit Aman have also contacted both complainants to get details on the personnel involved to assist the investigation by JIPS, ” he said yesterday.Action will be taken against the personnel involved if the allegations are proven, he added.

“The offences described by the complainants are serious misconducts that could tarnish the image of the police force, ” he said.
