KLANG: Bukit Melawati assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli (pic) was sworn in as Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s political secretary on Wednesday (Feb 10).
The 35-year-old Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia IT graduate was involved in various social and political activities before becoming an elected representative.
Juwairiya replaces Tanjong Sepat assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah, who vacated the position after being appointed a state executive councillor in September.
First-term assemblyman Juwairiya served as policy officer to the Selangor executive councillor for Public Health, Unity, Women Empowerment and Family from 2013 to 2018.
She is also the Kuala Selangor PKR division chief, as well as one of the party’s upper-echelon women leaders at national level.
Juwairiya was not the party’s initial choice to contest the Bukit Melawati state seat in the 2018 General Election.
She was thrown into the fray after original pick G. Sivamalar’s candidacy was rejected by the Election Commission owing to non-adherence to residential address requirements.
