PUTRAJAYA: Police have arrested 506 people for various violations of standard operating procedure (SOP), with failure to put on face masks at crowded public areas at the top of the offences committed.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 112 individuals were found to have not followed the basic SOP.
Other offences include premises operating beyond permitted hours (84), inter-state/district travel without permission (77) and failure to record customers’ details (66).
Of the 506 nabbed on Tuesday (Jan 26), 472 individuals were issued with compounds while 33 others were remanded.
The taskforce monitoring SOP compliance carried out 60,840 checks including on supermarkets (3,684), banks (3,537), factories (1,443) and government offices (686).
Ismail Sabri said 19 undocumented migrants were arrested during Ops Benteng on Jan 26 and enforcement authorities had also detected 82 boats in Malaysian waters.
“On screening of foreign workers, 7,541 individuals were tested on Tuesday, of which 153 tested positive, ” he said on Wednesday (Jan 27).
Cumulatively since Dec 1 last year, Covid-19 screenings were carried out on 225,950 foreign workers.
The number of those tested positive stood at 4,386 foreign workers.
Ismail Sabri said that 959 individuals had arrived at international entry points on Tuesday and all were sent to various quarantine stations nationwide.
He also said that since April 20 last year, the Construction Industry Development Board had inspected 8,350 construction sites.
Checks carried out on Tuesday on 73 construction sites saw 71 in operation had complied with SOPs.
