FAQ: Air travel during MCO 2.0

WITH air travel gradually opening up, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has provided answers to some of the frequently asked questions by passengers.

Q: I am coming back from overseas, what should I expect upon arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)?

A: Effective Dec 18,2020, all passengers with negative RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) tests taken three days before departing for Malaysia are required to undergo a seven-day mandatory quarantine at dedicated quarantine centres upon arrival at KLIA.

The cost for quarantine is to be determined by the Health Ministry.

Those flying into Malaysia without taking the RT-PCR test will undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine. This is also applicable for passengers with domestic connections to Peninsular Malaysia.

Transit passengers to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan must undergo a Covid-19 test at the international entrance before their flights.

All international passengers transiting at KLIA en route to Sabah must also undergo a Covid-19 test at the airport’s international entrance before their connecting flight (within 24 hours) and are required to undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine at designated quarantine centres at their arrival destination in Sabah.

The government no longer requires passengers (including Malaysians) to undergo Covid-19 tests three days before their flight to Malaysia.

However, they are subject to a Covid-19 screening test upon arrival. The cost of the test will be borne by the passengers, as determined by the Health Ministry.

Quarantine and testing costs for Sarawakians, including federal civil servants working in the state, will be borne by the Sarawak state government.

Malaysians will be charged RM60 by the health authorities for the Covid-19 detection test using the Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Ag) while foreigners will be charged RM120 for the test.

Malaysians and foreigners returning to Malaysia are also required to download the MySejahtera app on their phones at https://mysejahtera.malaysia.gov.my.

Q: Do I need police approval when travelling to domestic destinations?

A: Effective Jan 16,2021, customers will need police approval for interstate travel (domestic flights).

Those without police permits will be denied entry to the terminal by the authorities.

Q: What is the method of payment for my quarantine arrangements into Malaysia?

A: All passengers can make online payments for the quarantine arrangements and testing via MYEG ahead of their arrival in Malaysia.

However, the payment for swab tests (RT-PCR or RTK-Ag) and quarantine costs can be made upon arrival at the airport by cash or credit/debit card at dedicated counters before passing through the Immigration counter for international arrivals.

The quarantine charges include Covid-19 screening tests, transport, accommodation, meals and handling cost.
