PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan has submitted the names of three MPs to be part of the special independent committee that will advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the state of emergency.
They are Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Kulim Bandar Baru MP), Anthony Loke (Seremban MP) and Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Kuala Selangor MP).
Saifuddin, who is also the Pakatan secretary-general, said an official letter has been sent to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan about the nomination of the names.
"The Opposition representation into this special independent committee does not change our stand that the reasons put forward by the Prime Minister on the need to have an emergency declared are still unacceptable.
"We and a majority of MPs also believe that this Emergency proclamation needs to end and Parliament needs to reconvene soon," said Pakatan in a statement co-signed by Saifuddin, Loke and Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli who is from Parti Amanah Negara.
The special independent committee, which was part of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's national emergency announcement, is aimed at advising the King on how long the state of emergency is needed to be in order.
On Jan 12, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had decreed for the Emergency to be in force until Aug 1 or earlier if the number of Covid-19 cases can be effectively controlled and reduced.
The state of emergency was enforced nationwide as a proactive measure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
