PUTRAJAYA: A wedding and two family gatherings are among nine new Covid-19 clusters detected in the country, says the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said the cluster related to a wedding, named the Rakut cluster, has 10 confirmed Covid-19 cases so far.
The wedding was held at Sungai Rakut, Jalan Kampung Bakam in Miri.
Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 33 individuals have been screened so far.
Another cluster, named the Rantau Chempaka cluster, has 14 positive cases so far.
Dr Noor Hisham said the cluster involves a family gathering at Kampung Felda Cempaka Jengka 2 in Pahang.
The index case developed symptoms and tested positive on Jan 9.
A total of 57 individuals related to the cluster have been screened.
Another new cluster is the Jalan Sungai Jelok Prison cluster in Selangor, which has 217 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The prison in question is the Kajang Women’s Prison in Jalan Sungai Jelok, Kajang.
A targeted screening exercise was conducted at the prison, where 439 individuals have been screened so far.
Dr Noor Hisham said the total number of active clusters in the country is now up to 305.
Another new cluster also linked to a family gathering was detected in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
Named the Taman Sayong Pinang cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said the cluster has 18 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The index case is a 27-year-old woman who developed symptoms before testing positive on Jan 7.
A total of 104 individuals have been tested so far.
Another Johor cluster, named the Sri Gading cluster, has been seven confirmed cases.
The infection originated from a 27-year-old man who developed symptoms and tested positive for Covid-19 on Jan 16.
Screening on 48 individuals linked to a textile factory in the Sri Gading industrial area has been conducted so far.
The Kupang cluster in Baling, Kedah has 14 cases.
Its index case is a 55-year-old man who developed symptoms and tested positive on Jan 16.
A total of 54 of his social contacts in the Kupang subdistrict in Baling have been screened so far.
The Kebor Air cluster has 18 confirmed cases and is linked to two public higher learning institutions in Kuala Terengganu.
Its index case is a 38-year-old man who had tested positive for Covid-19 on Jan 16.
A screening on 264 individuals which includes the man’s work and social contacts has been conducted, and cases have been found in the Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Setiu and Dungun districts.
The cluster’s name refers to Kampung Kebor Air in Manir, Kuala Terengganu, where the index case resides.
Two other new clusters - Jalan Masjid (Kuala Lumpur, 16 cases) and Jalan Taruka (Johor, 38 cases) - are linked to targeted screening exercises conducted at two workplaces.
