New record high in just two days

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s daily record of Covid-19 cases has been broken yet again in a matter of two days, with 3,337 new infections reported.

It was only on Tuesday when the previous record of 3,309 cases was set.

In his daily Covid-19 press update, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this took the country’s cumulative total of cases to 147,855.

Selangor again recorded the highest increase of the day out of all states, with 1,036 new cases.

The state is among those that have been placed under the movement control order from Jan 13 to 26.

The other states where the MCO is imposed also show high number of Covid-19 cases.

Johor has the second highest figure out of all states, with 460 cases while Sabah has 389 cases.

The youngest death was a 27-year-old Malaysian woman who died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

She had a history of systemic lupus erythematosus – a chronic inflammatory disease.

The others who succumbed are aged between 34 and 91, with most patients having histories of comorbidities.

At present, 195 patients are in intensive care, with 86 requiring ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham said: “Seven new Covid-19 clusters have been detected by the ministry, taking the number of active clusters up to 276.”

One of the new clusters is the Jalan Selayang cluster, which is linked to workers of a supermarket.
