Recoveries at its highest with 3,321 patients discharged

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded the highest number of Covid-19 recoveries so far with 3,321 patients discharged.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the recovery rate was at 80.5% on Saturday.

However, there were 2,295 infections with Selangor recording the highest number of cases at 638.

There were also nine new fatalities, bringing the death toll to 483.

“The total number of active cases in the country is now 22,398 cases, ” he said in a statement yesterday.

“Currently, 125 people are being treated at intensive care units, with 51 of them on ventilator support, ” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said nine new clusters were detected in Johor, Selangor, Sabah, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Sarawak.

“In Johor, the Harum and Dewani clusters were identified beginning Jan 2 through targeted screenings at the workplace. The Casuarina construction site cluster was found in Sepang and Petaling following targeted screenings from Dec 27, ” he said, adding that 289 individuals were screened and 53 cases were identified.

“The Batu Lapan cluster was identified in Tambunan, Ranau and Kota Belud in Sabah involving the case index (case 101,678) who tested positive on Dec 26.

“A total of 341 individuals have been screened with 52 cases identified, ” he said.

Meanwhile, the Jalan BBN cluster was identified in Seremban following targeted screenings at the workplace on Dec 18.

He said 63 people were screened and 27 cases were detected.

“The Renggam cluster was identified in Petaling, Klang and Sepang in Selangor following targeted screenings at the workplace on Dec 29, with 1,000 individuals tested and 20 cases detected, ” he said.

In Kelantan, the Belukar cluster was identified in Machang involving the case index (case 103,887) who tested positive after screenings at high-risk areas on Dec 26.

“In Terengganu and Selangor the Kolam Permai cluster was detected in Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu and Petaling involving the case index (case 109,314) who tested positive after showing symptoms on Dec 30, ” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said that in Sarawak, the Mador cluster was identified involving the case index (case 110,418) who tested positive after high-risk area screenings on Dec 30.
