Arrest of trio cripples car theft ring

KUALA LUMPUR: A car theft syndicate has been crippled following the arrest of three men.

Police were alerted after a Nissan van was reported stolen near Taman Million at 1.22pm on Nov 11, said Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai.

“The three suspects are aged between 48 and 52. All three have a record for vehicle theft, ” he said in a statement, adding that the police were tracing several other suspects still at large.

The syndicate is believed to be active in Sentul, Jinjang, Kepong and other areas around the Klang Valley.

“We recovered a van, two cars and two motorcycles worth at least RM45,000, ” ACP Beh said.

In another operation, Sentul police rounded up 15 women believed to be involved in prostitution at reflexology centres.

ACP Beh said police conducted a series of raids at 2am on New Year’s Day.

“We arrested four local men, a Bangladeshi man and 15 foreign women. The men are believed to be caretakers and managers of the premises, ” he said in a statement.
