233 fined and two held for not observing SOP


PETALING JAYA: More than 200 people have been arrested by the police on Tuesday for violating the recovery movement control order, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister said police arrested 235 individuals for not observing the SOP.

Of the 235 individuals, 233 were issued with compound fines while two were remanded.

“The offences include failure to provide equipment to record customer details (82), incorrect way of wearing face masks (81), failure to comply with physical distancing (57), and others (15), ” he said in a statement yesterday.

As part of Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 40 illegal immigrants and five smugglers were arrested.

Ismail, who is also Defence Minister, said from April 20 till Tuesday, 13,953 inspections had been conducted by personnel of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) involving 7,988 construction sites nationwide.

“Yesterday (Tuesday), enforcement personnel inspected 20 construction sites nationwide and all of them complied with the SOP, ” he said.Since July 24, Ismail said 87,013 individuals have returned to Malaysia and placed in 74 hotels, 17 public and private training institutes in KL, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah, Labuan and Melaka.Of the total, Ismail said 9,405 individuals are undergoing mandatory quarantine while 532 individuals have been sent to hospitals and 77,076 individuals have been allowed to return home, ” he said.
