KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 546,755 units of affordable homes were being built in various stages between July 2018 and June this year, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin(pic).
She said based on the total, 327,922 units of houses were in the planning stage while 163,337 units were in the construction stage.
"So far, we have completed a total of 55,496 units," she said in reply to a question from Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Tanjung) during Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Dec 7).
Chow had asked the approach of the Federal Government in ensuring all states will have access to affordable housing including Penang.
For the housing projects under the 1Malaysia Housing Scheme (PR1MA), Zuraida said the ministry had revamped the programme after funding was halted since 2016.
"At that time, it was decided that projects that are below 15% of completion will be completely stopped and reviewed. For the rest, it will be continued," she said.
She said from a total of 94 projects which were signed between PR1MA and contractors from 2013 until 2018, the agreements had been reviewed with the approval from the members of the PR1MA corporation board.
She said from the total, 32 projects had been stopped while 62 projects had been allowed to resume.
"Out of the 32 projects that had been halted, 17 projects had been given compensation based on pre-development, working cost, among others, involving RM172mil.
"The rest are still under negotiations," she said.
