KUALA LUMPUR: The loss of confidence vote against Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the Perak Mentri Besar will not affect Umno-Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia cooperation in other states as it is a local issue, says Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic).

The Barisan Nasional secretary-general said that the matter is only between the state assemblymen in Perak.

"I wasn't aware of the issue because it was never discussed formally by Barisan at the national level or by the Umno supreme council. Umno president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) is going to meet with Umno Perak today to get the latest update on the issue," he said.

He said on Saturday (Dec 5) that he hoped the issue would be handled properly in the spirit of the Perikatan Nasional government so that it would not lead to instability and further disunity

The Ketereh MP dismissed claims that the matter would affect other states in which Umno and Bersatu are working together as Perikatan partners, saying that it was speculation.

In a vote of confidence tabled in the state assembly on Friday (Dec 4), Faizal lost the confidence vote 48-10 with one abstention.

Twenty-four assemblymen each from Umno and Pakatan Harapan rejected the motion.

Responding to PAS saying that it would not take part in the formation of the new Perak state government, Annuar said this was normal.

"That's a normal reaction. I was made to understand that even Bersatu refuses to be in a government that involves PKR and DAP. The political leaders must sit together to discuss the matter," he said.

On a comment by Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz that Umno was open to cooperating with PKR and Parti Amanah Negara, Annuar said this was an individual's opinion, adding that it did not represent the party's stand.

"I think it is best if we limit comments from individuals, as it can raise further confusion. We need to give the leadership space to deliberate on the matter," he said.

Annuar, who is also the Federal Territories Minister, was met after attending the MYFood@Wilayah programme at Kerinchi people's housing project in Lembah Pantai.

Separately, Annuar said that a copy of the Muafakat Nasional draft constitution had been distributed to Umno and PAS leaders.

"I am awaiting for further instructions. Maybe Umno and PAS want to take the draft through their internal process. There's also a question of who would administer the coalition, and this must be decided," he said.
