Body of man who fell from Sg Batu Pahat bridge found

BATU PAHAT: The body of a 72-year-old man has been found in Sungai Batu Pahat, two days after he fell from a bridge here.

Penggaram Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Fauzi Md Nor said search and rescue personnel found the body of the victim in the river at around 11am on Thursday (Nov 26).

He said a witness saw the man falling into the river at around 2.50pm Tuesday (Nov 24) and made an emergency call to the department, prompting the search and rescue efforts.

“We conducted a surface search within a 6km radius from where the victim was last seen.

“We found his body with the help from members of the public, who spotted the body lodged between some nipah trees near the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency jetty, ” he said.

He added that the body of the victim was handed over to the police for further action.
