PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's oldest university has done the nation proud again as it sits in the top 10 Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2021.

Universiti Malaya (UM) came in ninth, moving up four places from the previous ranking.

UM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor thanked the Higher Education Ministry for its support.

“My utmost gratitude also goes to our previous vice-chancellors, for today's achievement would not have been possible without the strong foundations built by these great leaders over the years, ” he said in a statement Wednesday (Nov 25).

Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad said 10 Malaysian universities, seven public and three private, fell within the 110 best universities in Asia.

Noraini added that Universiti Putra Malaysia came in 28th; Universiti Sains Malaysia (34); Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (35); Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (39); Universiti Teknologi Petronas (70); Taylor's University (89); UCSI University (105); Universiti Utara Malaysia (107); and Universiti Teknologi Mara (108).

"This is the best success the country (has achieved) so far," the ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
