KAJANG: A total of 141 illegal immigrants have been detained following an operation at Plaza Hentian Kajang's enhanced movement control order (MCO) area here.

Immigration Department deputy director-general (operations) Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa said 2,600 people were inspected, including 1,900 foreigners during the operation, which started at 8am on Tuesday (Nov 24).

"We detained 141 foreigners aged between one and 50.

"Those detained were 65 Indonesians, 59 Myanmar and the remainder were from other countries.

"Their offences were overstaying, misusing their visas and not having valid documents," he told reporters at the scene on Tuesday.

Those detained will be brought to the Semenyih detention depot, he added.

"The operation was conducted along with other agencies including the police and the Fire and Rescue Department," he said.

Between Jan 1 and Nov 23, a total of 34,649 illegal immigrants were detained in 6,347 operations conducted nationwide, Fauzi said.

"We also detained 376 employers for hiring illegal immigrants.

"The public must not harbour illegal foreigners or be ready to face stern action," he added.

Fauzi also urged those with information on illegal immigrants to contact the department as soon as possible.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the enhanced MCO at Plaza Hentian Kajang will end today (Nov 24).

However, the area would still be under a conditional MCO.
