Covid-19: Selangor records 407 new cases, majority linked to Teratai cluster

PUTRAJAYA: A Covid-19 cluster originating from a factory in Selangor has been the cause of more than half of new cases in the state.

On Thursday (Nov 19), Selangor is the second highest state with 407 new cases, behind Sabah which reported 660 new cases.

In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of Selangor’s 407 new cases, 245 of them were attributed to the Teratai cluster linked to the factory in the state.

Another 55 cases are from a new cluster dubbed the “Kapas BJ” cluster, which is based in Hulu Langat.

“Both the Teratai and Kapas BJ clusters are linked to workplaces in the state and involve foreigners, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The cases under the Teratai cluster involve the districts of Klang, Kuala Selangor, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Gombak and Kepong in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

So far, 636 positive cases were detected under the cluster, with 52 patients already discharged.

The ministry has screened 855 people under the cluster.

On the Kapas BJ cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said the index case is a factory worker who was found to be Covid-19 positive on Oct 28 following a screening on symptomatic individuals.

Until Nov 19,76 people have tested positive under this cluster.

On the other three new clusters detected, the Prestij cluster was detected among workers of a cleaning company in Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur.

“A total of 37 individuals have been screened, with 20 cases identified as positive under this cluster, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The Bah Bercham cluster was detected in Kinta, Perak, and is linked to a 65-year-old man who had returned from Sabah on Nov 13.

Screening on 137 individuals found four of the man’s social contacts to be positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, the Kiambang cluster in Johor has found nine cases in the districts of Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru linked to the cluster.
