Wee: Initial report of crash within 30 days

PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry will investigate the helicopter accident in Taman Melawati with an initial investigation report to be prepared within 30 days, says minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said the technical investigation, based on Annex 13 – Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO Annex 13) – had been initiated by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

“The main objective is to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident with the aim to safeguard lives and prevent future accidents. In this regard, the investigation to be initiated is not to apportion blame or liability.

“The investigating team will be issuing a full report of the findings, which will include recommendations for improvements toward better civil aviation safety once the entire investigation is completed.

“The government will use these findings as a basis to form future recommendations for holistic improvements to the country’s civil aviation industry,” Dr Wee said in a statement.

He said the Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre had been activated to provide all necessary rescue coordination efforts.
