Couple killed in car-lorry collision in Johor

KOTA TINGGI: A couple was killed after their car collided with a lorry trailer at KM82.5 on Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said that 29-year-old Suhairi Katwardi and his 32-year-old wife Norfatiha Mohamed Basir were heading towards Kota Tinggi from Felda Tenggaroh 4 in their car when they were killed in the accident.

“The incident occurred at about 6pm on Friday (Oct 2). Upon arriving at the location, lorry driver Mohd Ruzuki Tahar, 54, lost control of his vehicle and went into the opposite road and collided with their car, ” he said.

“The impact caused the lorry to swerve into the left side of the road before crashing into a ditch, ” he added in a statement on Saturday (Oct 3).

He added that the lorry driver suffered a serious head injury while the husband and wife were pronounced dead on the spot.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
