PETALING JAYA: A 41-year-old man has been detained for allegedly raping his 16-year-old stepdaughter multiple times since last year.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the man was detained near a restaurant here on Wednesday (Sept 16).
"He has been remanded for seven days.
"We are investigating the case under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest," ACP Nik Ezanee said when contacted on Friday (Sept 18).
The victim had lodged a report at 11.26am on Tuesday (Sept 15), claiming that she was raped by her stepfather in 2019 as well as from March until June this year at a house in the district during the movement control order (MCO).
"She was traumatised and suffered from depression. She was also scared to tell her mother about the incidents.
"However, she finally confided in her counselling teacher on Monday (Sept 14) and subsequently lodged the police report," ACP Nik Ezanee said.
A few individuals have been called up to assist investigations, he added.
"The victim has also been sent to a hospital for a medical check-up.
"We urge anyone with information to come forward or call Petaling Jaya police at 03-7966 2222," he said.
