Flash floods hit area near Masjid Jamek LRT, parts of KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Five locations in the city have been hit by flash floods after heavy downpour on Thursday evening (Sept 10).

The locations were Lebuh Ampang; Jalan Raja Alang in Kampung Bharu; Jalan Gurney Kiri, off Jalan Semarak; Lorong Ayer Leleh 5, Taman Ayer Panas; and Jalan San Ah Wing, Kampung Semarak.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue department, the water level had risen as high as 3m above the road.

"We received reports of flash floods in these areas between 4.25pm and 5.25pm on Thursday.

"The fire stations which responded to these flash floods were Hang Tuah, Titiwangsa as well as Jalan Tun Razak," it said in a statement.

"Fire and rescue personnel had been dispatched to all the areas to assist the situation.

"Several cars were caught in the flash floods at Lebuh Ampang, near Masjid Jamek LRT station," said its spokesman.

Several pictures by the department see water level reaching up to car tyres on Lebuh Ampang.

On Jalan Gurney, 10 victims were caught in the flash floods while fire and rescue personnel were at the site helping them to evacuate.

The Smart tunnel has also been closed to activate its flash floods system.
