Business operating hours extended until 2am, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: Operating hours for businesses, including restaurants and convenience stores, have been extended until 2am, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the decision was made by the National Security Council following requests by business operators to be allowed to operate for longer hours.

Currently, businesses, including mamak shops, stalls and convenience stores, need to pull down the shutters at midnight.

“The council has agreed to allow business premises to operate until 2am, ” he said on Thursday (Sept 10).

Ismail Sabri said the special Cabinet committee had also decided to limit the attendance for the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16, to 500 people.

The event will be held at the Indoor Stadium in Sibu, Sarawak and will be attended by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Attendance is by invitation only and tight standard operating procedure (SOP) must be followed, ” he said.
