Think before you forward

Starting young: Children consume vast amounts of media content. As such, educating young people on media literacy should start early, preferably from kindergarten. Parents need to be taught as well.

IN an age when fake news is served up at an alarming rate, how should parents educate their children that it’s wrong to lie and spread rumours, how can teachers teach students the importance of proper netiquette, and how can a government encourage its citizens to be mindful and responsible when posting and commenting on social media?

Freedom of speech most certainly doesn’t give one a free pass to lie or spread misinformation and hatred. In fact, it is sometimes quite hard to fathom why people post or share information without questioning its veracity. And it’s come to a point where news is more often than not fake rather than true.
