Guan Eng’s wife and sister at MACC Penang office

GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's wife and sister have arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.

His wife Betty Chew and sister Lim Hui Ying, who is also Penang DAP secretary, arrived in a white MPV at about 10.45am on Friday (Aug 7).

Accompanying them was a lawyer who arrived in a separate vehicle.

It is uncertain of why they were at the graftbuster’s office.

Lim, who is the former finance minister, earlier Friday pleaded not guilty in Kuala Lumpur to a bribery charge related to the RM6.3bil Penang undersea tunnel project.

Lim, also the former chief minister of Penang (2008-2018), was accused of requesting 10% of the profits from Datuk Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli as a bribe in order to get the contract for the project.

Zarul is the senior executive director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (CZC), the firm which was awarded the project.

The MACC charged Lim under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine up to five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, and imprisonment not exceeding 20 years.
