Rukunegara must always be appreciated by M’sians, says Selangor Ruler

PETALING JAYA: The Rukunegara must always be appreciated by Malaysians as its formation was built on the shape of the Malaysian society, says Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Sultan Sharafuddin believed that in the 80s, the values of the Rukunegara were not fully practised and translated to form a strong national bond.

"His Royal Highness wants the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Rukunegara this year to be used to instill the spirit of patriotism.

"It is the hope of His Royal Highness that the Rukunegara be the backbone in achieving closer unity among the people, as well as creating a just society so that the country's prosperity can be enjoyed together," stated the post on the Selangor Royal Official Instagram page on Wednesday (July 22).

The post noted that it has always been the wish of Sultan Sharafuddin to see unity and harmony among the multiracial people in Malaysia.

As such, it said that Sultan Sharafuddin found that the most basic importance that needs to be instilled in the heart of every citizen to form a Malaysian race that is truly patriotic, is the Rukunegara.

With that, Sultan Sharafuddin commissioned a wood carving art from Ting Wee Chia, a third generation of signage making artists from Melaka that displayed the Rukunegara in two languages, Bahasa Malaysia and in Chinese.

"The five ideological principles have now been instilled by His Royal Highness through a wood carving, a traditional symbolic sign of the Chinese community in Malaysia, which is now placed at Istana Alam Shah, Klang," it said.

The post noted that the Rukunegara wood carving was made from a large piece of Mersawa log with a circumference of a tree said to be at least 100 years old.

"The carving work was made entirely by hand, while the smoothing and tidying up of it took six months to ensure the highest quality and that it remains impeccable over time in accordance with the values brought by the Rukunegara itself," the post read.

. sambung di ruangan komen A post shared by SelangorRoyalOfficial (@selangorroyalofficial) on Jul 21, 2020 at 1:55am PDT
