16 held for not following social distancing rule

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested 16 individuals for failing to observe social distancing, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

They were among 52 individuals held yesterday for flouting rules and regulations under the recovery movement control order (MCO).

He reminded members of the public and industry players, especially those involved in physical transactions, to observe social distancing and personal hygiene to avoid spreading the Covid-19 virus.

“A total of 11 individuals have been remanded and one was released on bail,” he said, adding that compound notices were issued to 40 others.

Police also found that 1,455 Malaysians who had returned from abroad were abiding by the home quarantine order.

“From June 10 to July 14, the Health Ministry screened 18,154 individuals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s entry point and 73 of them tested positive for Covid-19,” Ismail Sabri said in a statement.

On Tuesday, 477 Malaysians returned from China, Indonesia, Qatar, India, Thailand and Japan.

The authorities have also tightened border control to check illegal entry. From May 1 to July 14, 1,598 illegal migrants, 526 boat captains and 110 human trafficking suspects were arrested.
