'Lone male' wild boar wanted for death of motorcyclist

MELAKA: A lone male wild boar is now high on the state's wanted list following the death of a 32-year-old automobile assembly plant worker.

Speaking about the recent death, state agriculture, agro-based, entrepreneur development and cooperative committee chairman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee said that male boars are very aggressive and attack humans along trunk and village roads in rural areas.

"We have to now trap these lone males who are a threat to motorcyclists, ” he said when interviewed here on Monday (June 15).

Norhizam added that the Melaka Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) had been constantly conducting operations to eradicate the population of wild boars but their numbers kept on increasing.

He also said that there were a few incidents of wild boars ramming into motorcyclists that were recorded in the state and added that Perhilitan had trapped many lone male wild boars although there is a local myth that the animal is invincible and hard to locate.

Earlier on Monday morning, the plant worker Zulkarnain Mokthar died after being in a coma for almost three days.

The victim was from Felcra Ramuan China in Lubok China here was on his way to work on his motorcycle when a wild boar - believed to be a lone male - rammed into him on June 12 along Jalan Brisu, Alor Gajah.
