PKR deputy women's wing chief to hold PC, expected to quit party

SHAH ALAM: There is an air of trepidation among PKR loyalists as one of the state's top party leaders Dr Daroyah Alwi (pic) has called for a press conference later in the day.

It is expected that Dr Daroyah, who is PKR deputy women's wing chief, and several of her followers will be announcing that they are quitting the party.

Dr Daroyah, who is also Selangor PKR wanita chief and Sementa assemblyman, is scheduled to hold the press conference at a hotel in Shah Alam at 3pm Saturday (June 13).

In the event Dr Daroyah leaves the party, the number of PKR assemblymen in the Selangor assembly will be reduced to 18 from the previous 19.

PKR had 21 out of the 56 seats in the Selangor legislative assembly after the 14th General Election in 2018.

However, the number of PKR seats fell to 19 earlier this year when both Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham were sacked from the party.

Both went on to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia which made the number of seats held by the party (Bersatu) grow from the initial five to seven in Selangor.

Dr Daroyah is known to be a close ally of Azmin and PRK's former vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, who had also joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR.

Both Azmin and Zuraida are members of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's Cabinet.

If Dr Daroyah joins Bersatu, the party would have eight seats in the Selangor assembly which will be equivalent to the number of seats held by Pakatan Harapan component party, Parti Amanah Negara.

Her exit from PKR may also open the door for several more PKR elected state representatives to quit the party given that it is believed there are about nine more Azmin loyalists in the state legislative assembly.

PKR Wanita chief Haniza Talha, who is an exco member and Lembah Jaya assemblyman, was also suspended from the party on April 6 for allegedly meeting with Azmin and Zuraida on Feb 24.
