KUALA LUMPUR: Police pulled over 11 drivers who are believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol after a night out on the town Wednesday (June 3).
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said all those caught were found to have been over the legal limit and taken to the police station for further investigations.
"We conducted preliminary tests on the road and found that they were over the legal limit and they were then brought to the station for a second test to confirm the findings," he said.
The legal alcohol limit is 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
The 11, aged between 30 and 50, were caught at four roadblocks on Jalan Sri Hartamas, Jalan Kepong, Jalan Hang Tuah and Jalan Klang Lama set up to deter drink driving.
Among them was a 33-year-old man who was heading out of the city centre via Jalan Hang Tuah.
Initial breathalyser tests found the man's alcohol levels to be more than twice the legal limit, but he claimed he was confident of driving, as he knew his limit.
Police also pulled over a 42-year-old man whose alcohol levels were more than three times the legal limit.
The man said he was on his way back to Kepong after having dinner with a few friends.
Both men had their cars driven to the police station by police personnel for further action.
Since May 26, city police have recorded 33 cases of drink-driving in Kuala Lumpur.
Comm Mazlan said police will be conducting roadblocks periodically in a bid to bring down drink-driving cases.
"Please take public transport such as taxis or book an e-hailing ride home after you've been out drinking or call a family member to fetch you.
"Drink-driving endangers your life and the life of others," he said.
