PETALING JAYA: The new normal in battling the spread of Covid-19 is not a hindrance for Malaysians when it comes to celebrating this year’s Hari Raya, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister and MCA president said the government cares and is serious about safeguarding the rakyat’s health and safety.
“The beginning of 2020 is certainly different from the previous years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“But it's not a hindrance for us to celebrate this very special holiday. It's just that the way we celebrate it may be slightly different from the previous years.
“In any case, the government of today is very sensitive and concerned about what is happening, and is very serious about the safety and health of the people.
“Believe me, whatever the decision, it is for one reason only - to protect the interests of the people and the nation, ” he said in his Hari Raya video message on his Facebook on Saturday (May 23).
In the video which was accompanied by Dendang Perantau, a popular Raya song by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Dr Wee said we can still cherish this celebration with much gratefulness as well as moderation, despite celebrating it amid the pandemic.
“Stay safe, stay at home and we will be able to break this chain of infection, ” he said, adding that we will win the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic together.
“May all Malaysian citizens from multi races, background and beliefs will share a stronger bond.
“Selamat Hari Raya, maaf zahir dan batin to all the Muslims in the country, ” he added.
