No background check on director

Taking precautions: Najib wearing a face mask at the courthouse.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court was told that the board of directors for 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) did not do a background check on one of its independent directors as the appointment was made through Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, 50, testified that Tan Sri Ong Gim Huat’s name was mooted by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, but the appointment of directors could only be done by the former prime minister as the sole shareholder of 1MDB.
