ALOR SETAR: Kedah’s 10 state executive committee (exco) chairmen were sworn in at Wisma Darul Aman on Wednesday (May 20).
Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (PAS), who is Jeneri assemblyman, announced the 10 – four from PAS, three from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, one from Umno, and two independents.
Sanusi himself will chair the state economic planning, state planning, land affairs, earth and natural resource, finance, Kedah Economic Council and government-linked companies (GLCs) portfolios.
PAS’ Tokai assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman will head the health and local government portfolio while Bukit Pinang assemblyman Wan Romani Wan Salim will head the information, communication and multimedia as well as the domestic trade and consumer affairs portfolios.
Also from PAS, Kupang assemblyman Datuk Najmi Ahmad will head the religious, education and human resource portfolio while Merbau Pulas assemblyman Datuk Siti Aishah Ghazali will head the rural development, poverty eradication and the human development portfolios.
Bersatu's Guar Chempedak assemblyman Datuk Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail will head the industry and investment; science, technology and innovation; and higher education portfolios.
Bersatu's Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblyman Halimaton Shaadiah Saad will head the women, family and community as well as the welfare portfolios; while Kuah assemblyman Mohd Firdaus Ahmad will head the youth and sports; tourism, art and culture, as well as the entrepreneur development and cooperatives portfolios.
Umno’s Sungai Tiang assemblyman Datuk Suraya Yaacob will head the public works, water supply and source, and energy portfolio.
Independent Lunas assemblyman Azman Nasrudin will head the agriculture and food industry, agriculture entrepreneurship and commodity, transport and the Indian community affairs portfolios; while Sidam assemblyman Robert Ling Kui Ee will head the housing, environment, unity, as well as the Chinese and Thai community affairs portfolios.
All 10 of them were sworn in before Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.
The appointment of the new exco members is in accordance with Article 37(2)(b) of the Kedah state constitution following the appointment of Sanusi as the new Kedah Mentri Besar on May 17, replacing Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Azman, Halimaton and Firdaus were exco members under Mukhriz.
There are 23 Perikatan Nasional members in the 36-member assembly. Of these, 15 are from PAS, four are PPBM members aligned with Perikatan, and the remaining four are split evenly between Umno and independents.
