PM hopes families will strengthen ties this Wesak Day

PETALING JAYA: Although this year’s Wesak Day celebrations is a difficult one due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, it is hoped that the occasion would help strengthen our family ties, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I want to wish ‘Happy Wesak Day’ to all Buddhists who are celebrating.

“Such a festival proves that the principles and religious practices are always respected and valued by all Malaysians.

“Wesak Day this time is being celebrated in a challenging situation because we are currently in the conditional movement control order (MCO) in our efforts to curb Covid-19.

“But I believe those who are celebrating will still be able to celebrate Wesak Day with their families, ” he said in his Wesak Day message on his Facebook page yesterday.

Buddhists are celebrating Wesak Day today.

Muhyiddin hoped that this celebration would be able to strengthen family ties as well as to curb the spread of the Covid-19 that is affecting people’s daily lives.

“It gives me great pleasure to send my greetings to all Malaysian Buddhist friends who will be celebrating Wesak Day.

“Wesak is a time for all Buddhists to reflect on the fundamental values of tolerance, compassion and service to humanity that are embodied in Buddha’s life and teachings.

“I wish all Malaysian Buddhist friends a happy celebration with their families. May we all come together and continue to live as one in peace and harmony, ” he said.
