Application for inter-state travel open

PETALING JAYA: Only those who were already at their hometowns when the movement control order (MCO) began on March 18 are allowed to apply for permission for inter-state travel via the Gerak Malaysia app.

Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed (pic) said applications for the travel purpose can be made from now until April 29.

“The Gerak Malaysia app is to stop big groups from going out to apply for permission at police stations, thus preventing the risk of Covid-19 infections.

“A generated QR code will be scanned by personnel manning roadblocks, easing travel for applicants, ” Comm Huzir said in a statement yesterday.

He said applicants had to permit the app to track their locations via their smartphones to authenticate the users’ current location.

Further details on the movement schedule and guidelines would be announced by the police on Wednesday, he added.

Besides inter-state travel, he said there were also procedures in place to process several other permits in the app.

These include movement for medical reasons, grocery shopping within 10km of one’s home, and for emergencies.

However, only applications for inter-state travel were being processed at this moment, Comm Huzir said.

He had said earlier that restaurants or food stalls and surau at rest areas along the North-South Expressway would remain closed.

“Only toilets are open. Motorists are required to rest inside their vehicles at parking areas, ” said Comm Huzir, who added no group prayers would be allowed at these areas along the expressway.
