Pup-saving hero cop's secret identity revealed

PETALING JAYA: The pooch-rescuing policeman who was seen saving a stray puppy trapped in a monsoon drain next to a roadblock in a viral video has been identified as Corporal Mohd Azad.

The Royal Malaysia Police Facebook page confirmed his identity while congratulating Cpl Azad, who is attached to the Shah Alam police headquarters’ Mobile Patrol Vehicle unit, for his well-publicised good deed.

The page also shared the minute-long viral video, in which Cpl Azad was seen inside the monsoon drain as he attempted to gain the trust of the terrified and anxious black puppy, which was straying further into the drain.

Two other stray dogs, believed to be the puppy’s parents, observed Cpl Azad's “operation” from above the monsoon drain.

It didn’t take long for trust to be gained, as Cpl Azad gently patted the puppy on its head before carrying it back to surface to reunite it with its parents, who were seen wagging their tails in gratitude.

As he climbed out of the drain, the two stray dogs and puppy were seen approaching him, wagging their tails.

Malaysians on social media were mostly touched by the video and sang praises at the police officer’s selfless gesture.
