PETALING JAYA: Terengganu has announced the third phase of its aid package amounting to RM960,000 to provide food items to those in need, following the enforcement of the movement restriction order (MCO) to stem the spread of Covid-19.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said rice, sardine and other food items would be given to families in need.
The state is disbursing RM30,000 to every state constituency in aid of 600 affected families.
"The community service centre and village community management council will help identify families in need," he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 25).
Priority is given to families with no fixed income and were not recipients of existing aid from Welfare Department or the Terengganu Islamic religious and Malay customs council (MAIDAM).
"This is an additional package to emergency relief provided to the needy," he said.
The first phase of Terengganu's aid package amounted to RM640,000, while the second phase involved deferment of payment and suspension of schemes.
Samsuri said the state would continue implementing aid packages in phases to help those affected by the pandemic.
"Together, we pray the nation will recover soon from the pandemic," he said.
