Don't worry, there is enough food for everyone, says PM amid Covid-19 fears

PUTRAJAYA: Amid the panic buying following fear over the Covid-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Malaysians to be calm, as he assured that there was enough food for everyone.

“Don’t worry, there is enough food around, ” he said during a press conference held at the Prime Minister’s Office here following an Economic Action Council (EAC) meeting Monday (March 16).

According to Muhyiddin, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) was instructed to ensure that the supply of essential food items is available.

“I know there’s a certain degree of panic among you. I noted there is serious worry that there is not enough food around. But we believe there is a sufficient amount.

“We are also asking the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry to monitor the situation on the ground.”

Muhyiddin said that based on the reports he received on Monday, there is no indication that food supply is running out.

“So, don’t rush, buy what is necessary and stock what is necessary and we will ensure that food is available to you at all times, ” he added.
