ALOR SETAR: The body of a man, believed to have been killed by his own younger brother, was found in a blue plastic barrel filled with concrete behind their village house in Kampung Padang Hassan, Mukim Lengkuas, Kepala Batas, about 15km from here.
The victim was identified as Mohd Hasnul Nizar Khairul Anuar, 34, who was said to be a drug addict.
The suspect, aged 24, was the fourth brother of the deceased.
His body was found buried in concrete in the barrel at 7am Sunday (March 8).
The deceased's younger brother Mohd Nasir Azami, 24, a container crane driver, said,"We have six siblings, two girls and four boys, aged 21 to 34 years old.
"The victim is our mother's first child from a different father and the suspect is the fourth child," he said.
Nasir said the incident is believed to have occurred on Friday (March 6) afternoon.
"A heated argument took place between the suspect and the victim, who tried to attack the suspect with a parang.
"In self defence, the suspect tried to fight back with a broom and in the struggle, the victim's back was slashed," he said.
According to Nasir, the suspect had shown his older brother Asraf, in his 30s, where he had hidden the victim's body at about 2am Sunday and the family alerted the police.
Kedah Criminal Investigations Department chief Asst Comm Sapii Ahmad said," The body of the victim was found after the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect, who was also the younger brother of the victim.
"Following the incident, police officers detained the suspect and found the barrel," he said when met at the scene of the incident.
It is understood that the weapon and construction equipment were recovered and seized from the house.
"The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," ACP Sapii said.
The barrel containing the victim's remains was sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a postmortem.
