KUALA LUMPUR: The calm in front of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's house turned into a buzz of activity as the announcement from Istana Negara broke that Muhyiddin is to be the new prime minister.
After the announcement at around 5pm, faint shouts of joy were heard from inside the house.
Muhyiddin later came out at 5pm with his family, to speak to his supporters and the media outside.
"I thank Allah that I was given this job, and that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah agreed (berkenan) to the appointment.
"I thank everyone for the moral support," he added.
