KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Amanah is concerned over the possibility of PAS-Umno being part of a new coalition government, as it could jeopardise state rights of Sabah and Sarawak.
The state's youth political bureau chairman Khairrudin Daud said current development, whereby Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's group was working to form a pact with PAS and Umno would have serious consequences for Bornean states.
He said the two parties were "extreme" in their stand, and that it would not benefit either Sabah or Sarawak.
“We point to their behaviour during the Parliamentary motion to amend the Constitution and grant equal status to Sabah and Sarawak.
“The motion was rejected outright by PAS and Umno MPs, ” he said, adding that having Umno and PAS within the Federal Government could lead to the Bornean state rights being eroded further.
Their actions thwarted Sabah efforts by the Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government from regaining rights lost or eroded from the 1963 Malaysia Agreement, he said.
“There is no need to remind that PAS and Umno have proven themselves to be extremist parties, which would be deeply unsettling to Sabah and Sarawak's multicultural environment, ” he said.
Khairrudin said all Sabah and Sarawak parties should think rationally and consider their position before joining a coalition government that included PAS and Umno at the federal level.
