Kadir Jasin: Muhyiddin's PM nomination was not decided by Bersatu Supreme Council

PETALING JAYA: The nomination of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as a candidate for Prime Minister was not a decision by the party’s supreme council, says Bersatu supreme council member Datuk A. Kadir Jasin.

"As an explanation, the decision was not made by Bersatu.

"The supreme council was not brought in to deliberate or informed of the issue.

"The stance of the council is as per Monday's meeting, in which Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad remains as the Prime Minister," he said in a Facebook posting on Friday (Feb 28).

He added that it was not strange for PAS and Umno to throw their support behind Muhyiddin.

"Unlike Dr Mahathir, who was only prepared to accept Umno leaders as individuals, Muhyiddin would accept them as a party.

"It is Tun's principle to accept the people's mandate to reject kleptocrats in the 2018 elections," he said.

He added that Dr Mahathir had constantly reminded the supreme council that Umno was desperate to create a joint government with Bersatu because the "day of reckoning" for their leaders undergoing trial were fast approaching.
