Bersatu Youth supports party council's decision to back Muhyiddin as next PM, says exco member

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) youth grassroots members fully supports the party's supreme council decision to back Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the post of prime minister, says exco Muzzammil Ismail.

"We represent the voice of the youth grassroots and wish to state our full support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin for the post of the eighth prime minister.

"We feel that this will help end the political turmoil affecting the nation over the last few days," told reporters after meeting Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at his home in Bukit Damansara on Friday night (Feb 28).

Asked if this was the stand of Bersatu youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Muzzammil said that Syed Saddiq had not responded to attempts to reach him, and he is unaware of his whereabouts.

He merely reiterated that the party's youth wing fully supported and will abide by the decision of the party's supreme council on endorsing Muhyiddin.

When asked if Syed Saddiq had agreed to the decision by the youth wing to back Muhyiddin, Muzzammil said that the question should be put to Syed Saddiq.

"I cannot give any further explanation on that.

"It is best if the question is put to the person concerned.

"Our stand is clear and solid and we will not change it," he said.

Syed Saddiq was not seen among the leaders and supporters who had come to meet Muhyiddin at his home, following Bersatu's announcement that it was backing the former Home Minister as the next prime minister.

There were reports that there had been divisions during the Bersatu meeting at Yayasan Al'Bukhary earlier on Friday.

Earlier, when met outside Muhyiddin's home, Bersatu supreme council Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof downplayed and dismissed such reports.
