JOHOR BARU: A PKR leader expects the Pakatan Harapan-led Johor state government to crumble once the new federal government is formed.
“I know we will have traitors who will switch camps and the state will fall, ” said Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim.
He added that the new coalition between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PAS and Barisan Nasional would be able to gather 28 assemblymen.
“They just need to get another one or two more to support them and the state falls to them, ” said Hassan, the former PKR state chief and aligned to party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Presently, the Pakatan state government has a two-thirds majority with 39 assemblymen, while the Opposition has 17.
Meanwhile, Johor’s Pakatan leaders have been tight-lipped about the state’s situation as many are attending meetings at their respective party headquarters in the Klang Valley.
It is learnt that DAP’s 14 assemblymen and five MPs had a four-hour discussion at their party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Similarly, PKR called all its representatives to Petaling Jaya for meetings.
However, it is business as usual for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, even after it left the coalition.
A political source said massive “horse trading” was taking place to prevent the state from falling.
“Some Bersatu loyalists aligned with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad may jump ship and support the state government.
“It is a numbers game, ” the source said, adding that everything should be clearer in the next few days.
