Unemployed man claims trial for allegedly molesting a child

MELAKA: An unemployed man claimed trial to an offence of allegedly caressing the private parts of a child.

The plea of Mohamad Heri Ramli, 32, was recorded before Judge Ahmad Sazali Omar at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here on Friday (Dec 27).

Based on the charge sheet, the accused had outraged the modesty of an eight-year-old girl who was buying food at Infasha Maju Restaurant in Batu Berendam between 10am and 10.15am on Tuesday (Dec 24).

The alleged act was also recorded on CCTV.

The accused had allegedly committed the offence under Section 14(A) of Sexual Offence Against Children Act 2017.

He could face a maximum of 20 years' jail and caning upon conviction.

The court disallowed bail and fixed Jan 28 for re-mention.
