NGOs lodge police reports against upcoming Dong Zong gathering

KAJANG: A group of NGOs has filed police reports en masse against the planned Dec 28 gathering organised by educationist group Dong Jiao Zong.

The reports were all lodged at the Kajang police headquarters on Wednesday (Dec 25).

“In our report, we urge the police to investigate all of their activities which have brought unrest among the races here, ” said Pertubuhan Kebajikan Darul Islah Malaysia (Perkid) president Masridzi Sat, speaking for the group.

The group asked for, among others, investigation papers to be opened against Dong Zong leaders for alleged sedition and also for the upcoming gathering to be cancelled.

The NGOs also issued a warning, saying that they would be present at the planned meeting if it is not stopped.

Previously, Dong Zong central committee member Low Chee Chong said that the gathering would only be held inside New Era University College building, and there was no plan for the participants of the meeting to go outside for a rally.

His comments came after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the planned gathering by Chinese associations over the Jawi calligraphy module issue would only further divide the country.

He also said that the Malays would have their own gathering and talk about closing Chinese schools if the Dec 28 meeting was to go on.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also urged the parties to cancel the gathering and have dialogue sessions instead.
