PAKATAN Harapan’s weaknesses in governing the country was the main highlight of Puteri Umno chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan’s speech at the wing’s meeting.
Aside from the weakening economy and other blunders of the government, Zahida said Pakatan had even torn apart the word “manifesto”.
“I urge the party leadership to be cautious with that word as many are fed up.
“Pakatan has ‘dirtied’ that word. Young people feel that they have been cheated by Pakatan’s glorified manifesto, which they now see as a tool to gain power, ” she said.
On Umno, Zahida said the party must have a new narrative to spell out its successes, which were halted in the last general election.
She said the people needed to be told that while Umno never pledged to do away with PTPTN loans, the Barisan Nasional government had offered discounts so that borrowers could pay off their loans.
“Barisan’s administration was for the rakyat. Only those who buy into Pakatan’s propaganda will believe its claim that Barisan destroyed the country in the 62 years it had governed it, ” she said.
On Muafakat Nasional, she assured the people the unity of the Malays was not to oppress others, and that the cooperation would create a moderate environment for all.
She cited the recent Tanjung Piai by-election where the Malays stood united to help Barisan’s non-Malay candidate to victory.
