Puteri Umno: Muafakat Nasional isn't to oppress, but to create moderate environment for all

KUALA LUMPUR: The unity of the Malays through Muafakat Nasional is not to oppress others, assures Puteri Umno.

Its chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan (pic) said the cooperation with PAS would instead create a moderate environment that will be welcomed by all.

She said the evidence was clear during the Tanjung Piai by-election where the Malays united to help Barisan Nasional's non-Malay candidate.

"Do not worry, united Malays will not oppress others," she said during her speech at the Puteri Umno meeting on Thursday (Dec 5).

She said that Muafakat Nasional had proven to be a success, causing concern to its enemies and proving to the people that it is not a racist collaboration between Umno and PAS.

Zahida said Puteri Umno must be prepared for a generational change, adding that with the voting age now lowered to 18, the next polls will be "a young general election".

"Whoever can come up with an interesting and creative narrative for the young – they are the ones who will take power.

"What is important is how we carve a simple narrative to look at their complex problems such as employment, the right to be heard and social justice," she said.
