IPOH: Two safe boxes and several important documents were stolen from the house of state executive councillor Paul Yong.
He said he had left his house in Meru Desa Park near here for Kuala Lumpur on Nov 22 and only returned on Dec 1.
Yong said the intruders would have climbed a 1.8m wall before prying open two window grilles to enter his house, and later escaped through the back door.
“I am puzzled as to why all the bedroom doors were opened and the rooms ransacked except for the room of my former Indonesian maid.
“I don’t deny that there is a possibility that those who broke into my house are known or those familiar with the surroundings of my house,” he said in a statement yesterday, adding that a police report had been lodged.
Yong, who is also Tronoh assemblyman, was charged with raping his maid in a Sessions Court here in August, and the case is ongoing.
On Nov 27, Yong’s bid to have his case transferred to the High Court was dismissed, and the case would be back in the Sessions Court today.
Yong said when he got home
at about 12.30pm on Dec 1, he wanted to sweep the surrounding area strewn with leaves, and went to the back of the house to get a broom.
“That was when I noticed that the back door was ajar and the grilles had been pried open.
“When I checked further, I found the doors and cupboards of the study on the lower floor as well as four other rooms on the upper floor were ransacked, but the former maid’s room was untouched,” he claimed.
Yong said the two safe boxes – one located in the master bedroom and another in the living room – with important documents and valuables were missing.
“It’s really difficult for one person to carry the heavy safe boxes and jump over the wall, thus I believe there must be at least two people involved in the burglary.
“Of the cabinets and cupboards in the house, the thieves seemed to know where I had kept my important documents and the cash I had placed in a locked cupboard.
“I had kept documents for my property and car inside the safe boxes.
“Now, I need time to check on what other documents and items that have gone missing.
“They (thieves) were not interested to take my 60-inch television, other expensive items or a high-powered motorcycle parked in the porch with its keys kept inside the house,” he added.
Yong said his housing area was gated and guarded, with a security guard making an hourly round.
“I thought it safe living in a gated and guarded property and not necessary for me to install a CCTV.
“But now I will need to install one as there may be a secret recording device planted in my house,” he added.
Perak CID chief Asst Comm Anuar Othman confirmed that a police report had been lodged and said the police were carrying out an investigation.
He said the forensics team had also identified four fingerprints.
“There are no CCTVs in the complainant’s house or the house located behind it,” he said, adding that many houses along the row were unoccupied.
