No quarter for DAP members who fail to toe the party line, warns Nga

IPOH: Those who failed to adhere to the instructions of the party are not qualified to hold any posts, says Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming (pic).

Nga, who is also Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker, said party members at all levels must adhere to party instructions and are subject to the party constitution and discipline.

"Without the party, who are we? Without the party, will there be a government?" he asked, adding that many government positions are nominated by the party.

Nga said party members should not violate party discipline and take full responsibility for their actions.

"We will not compromise on those who act like 'kacang lupakan kulit (forget their roots). It is not our culture.

"When (you have) done something wrong and disciplinary action is taken, don't blame others – just self reflect," he had said in his keynote speech during the party's 20th Annual Convention here on Sunday (Nov 24).

Midway through his speech, Nga also showed a video of Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu speaking on fulfilling Pakatan Harapan's promises.

Among the promises highlighted included giving out permanent land titles, recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), no tax increment for five years, lowering the water tariff rate and open tender for projects.

"I am confident that he (Ahmad) can do it.

"I have instructed the five state exco members from DAP to help him fulfil the promises," he said.

Notably missing during the opening of the conference were state executive council member Paul Yong Choo Kiong, Malim Nawar rep Leong Cheok Keng and Pokok Assam rep Leow Thye Yih.

Yong had on Thursday (Nov 21) issued a press statement, urging his supporters to continue backing the state party leadership.

It was also reported that both Leong and Leow had announced in a joint statement on Saturday that they would return to the state party committee line-up.

Both had resigned in September, citing dissatisfaction with Nga who said Yong's position would be discussed at a Pakatan meeting.

This was after Yong had claimed trial to a rape charge and took leave from official duties as a state executive council member in August.

Yong had resumed duties during the state assembly sitting last week.
